Chapter 13: Territorial structure
This chapter summarizes current constitutional design regarding territorial structures. It is based on the review of national constitutions and seeks to establish a common ground for writing and amending constitutions. It differentiates between unitary systems (centralised or decentralised), regionalised systems, symmetrical and asymmetrical federal systems and their features. Finally, it makes references to local government clauses in a constitution. This chapter forms part of Vol. I of Writing Constitutions.
